Interdisciplinary performance artist, M. Cochise Anderson, Chickasaw/Mississippi Choctaw Nations, originally from Oklahoma, will be honored for the month of February 2006 as our Artist of the Month.
Cochise released his album, “The Kemosabe Therapy,” last year, which was nominated for the 2005 Indian Summer Music Awards in the Spoken Word category. The album is a collection of “word songs” which illuminates the mainstream culture's use of words to manipulate the masses.
Cochise is currently appearing in the role of Stevie Jackson in the national tour of William S. Yellow Robe, Jr.’s play “Grandchildren of the Buffalo Soldiers.” The play is directed by Lou Bellamy of The Penumbra Theatre Company in Minnesota in conjunction with Trinity Repertory Company in Rhode Island. The self-proclaimed “Liberator of Ignorance,” contacted me recently and stated that he had, “finally made it back out to NYC! We were in DC all last week and we were at Hanover, New Hampshire and at Dartmouth the week before. I’ll send you the e-posters for my NYC shows.” Needless to say, Cochise sounded very happy to be doing what he does best.
Returning back to the Twin Cities on Sunday, February 12th, Cochise will be appearing in concert with World Voices-Celebrating Global Cultures Through Choral Music on Saturday, February 25, 2006, 7:30 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and on Sunday, February 26, 2006, 3:00 p.m. at Wayzata Community Church in Wayzata, Minnesota.
