Recipes
Wild Rice Stuffing
|
1 cup raw wild rice |
3 cups chicken broth |
|
1 cup diced celery |
1/4 cup minced onion |
|
1/2 cup melted butter |
4 oz. can mushrooms |
|
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon pepper |
|
1/4 teaspoon sage |
1/4 teaspoon thyme |
Cook rice in boiling broth. Saute celery, onions and mushrooms in butter for 2-3 minutes. Combine all ingredients. Makes about 6 cups or enough to stuff a 10 pound turkey. Also great with any wild game.

Bill Schaff, member of the Mille Lacs Indian Reservation, Minnesota. Founder and President of a Minnesota-based business that specializes in delivering hand harvested wild rice and construction of handcrafted product made from the native birch bark tree, will be honored as our Entrepreneur of the Month for the month of March 2006.
Bill is also owner and operator of First Nations Distributing, INC. A bottled water company. First Nations provides contract services to provide bottled water under their name brand.
They provide five gallon jugs of water with hot and cold water dispensers which can be rented or purchased. They welcome volume customers.
Current Clients include Grand Casino, Hinkley and the Mille Lacs Band, Corporate offices.
MAHNOMIN (meaning: good berry) Hand-Harvested Wild Rice
Wild rice, which the Ojibwe call mahnomin (pronounced mah-no-men), has long been an important food for Native Americans in the Upper Great Lakes region.
Archaeologists say that Indians have gathered wild rice as far back as 2,500 years ago. It has been called the “perfect food” because it is high in protein and fiber, but low in fat. Actually, wild rice is not true rice like white rice, but a grain that grows naturally on top of a long grass in the lakes and river beds of the Great Lakes area.
